an interview with: Capri Everitt

We caught up with Guinness World Record-holding singer and songwriter Capri Everitt.

Iuliana: Hey Capri! How are you? Excited to interview you today! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Capri: Hi! Thanks so much for interviewing me! As for some facts about me, I am a 15 year old singer/songwriter who loves playing guitar and dancing. In my spare time, I work on my tiktok account (lol) and write my own songs.

Iuliana: Can you recall the moment when you thought you could be a musician? What do you think motivates you day in and day out? How has that changed over the years?
Capri: My parents decided to put me in piano lessons when I was 5 to give me more options to choose from in the future. Little did they know, music would end up being my passion.
In terms of when I need motivation, I love watching videos of my favourite artists performing. Watching them onstage makes me want to work as hard as I can so that I can get to do that as well.

Iuliana: What have been your favorite performance venues so far? Tell us about them.
Capri: I have had the opportunity to perform at some pretty cool venues including many stadiums for events such as WeDay, sports games, tournaments, etc. I would have to say one of my favourite performing experiences was when I got to perform at the Netball World Cup last year. The crowd was amazing and the energy of the tournament was contagious.

Iuliana: You received a Guinness World Record for “most national anthems sung in their host countries in one year.” Could you share with our readers more about the adventures you experienced?
Capri: A few years ago, I travelled around the world to 80 countries and sang 80 anthems in their native languages to raise money for a charity. I was fortunate enough to see many parts of the world at such a young age and see so many different things. Not only did I get to see so many different countries, I also got to meet people and fully experience the different cultures.

Iuliana: Capri, I’m curious to know why you decided to sing the national anthems. Which one of them was your favorite to perform?
Capri: I believe that anthems are uniting songs and therefore would be the right thing to sing for a mission such as ours.

Iuliana: What do you think was the hardest part of this trip? Why?
Capri: In my opinion, the hardest part of the mission was learning the 80 national anthems. When you sing a national anthem in a different language, there is a certain amount of pressure to sing it right otherwise you may end up offending people.

Iuliana: What inspired you to use your voice to raise money? What issue are you trying to solve?
Capri: Singing is my passion and I thought it would be a good tool to use to bring awareness towards our issue. The charity we were raising money for was called SOS Children’s Villages and it gives homes to orphaned and abandoned children.

Iuliana: Concerning the music world, not long ago you released your single “Breathe”. Can you tell us what this track means to you? What’s the story behind it?
Capri: I released Breathe during quarantine in mid may. Breathe is a song that I hold very close to my heart. I wrote it last year when I was going through a bit of a rough patch. I wrote the song with the intention of helping other people know that they aren’t alone in their struggles, reminding them, as well as myself, to “just breathe”.

Iuliana: What’s next for you? Any exciting new projects?
Capri: I am very excited to be recording new songs this summer that will be released in the fall!

Iuliana: What advice would you give to our fellow readers about following their dreams and making a difference?
Capri: My advice would be to find something that you are extremely passionate about and think about all the things you need to do to work towards it. That way you will stay motivated to do what you love!
